Reflecting on this short film we made nearly 2 years ago, I can’t suppress a grin of gratitude. Yesterday the Oscar Shortlist came out, and Safety was not on it. Although we would’ve loved for it to have had that platform, to reach more people and to create more awareness, I am so happy to see how well it’s done in its film festival life. The feedback it has received and the conversations it has ignited give me hope that we can imagine and MANIFEST a safer country for our children, one where stories like Safety don’t exist.
Firstly, I had the ABSOLUTE HONOR of working with Fabrice (@fabriceojoubert) as director. I’ve never met someone so considerate, thoughtful, and heartfelt. To be on his set is to be guided, with gentle, gracious hands.
This was my first time getting to work with my younger brother, Garrison. To see simple, real acting (untainted by all the hoopla and ego we so often adopt and embrace with the craft as we get older) come from someone so close to you is special. And although our time together was short, I got to meet some other incredible talent, Mr. Nagle (@nagdoggie) and Ms. Mouté (@marie_moute).
As she has done many times in the past, Ricki (@rgmaslar) was the one to approach me with this gift. Her acts of love and kindness throughout my career have always been reminders of the goodness in the business. Thank you, Ricki ❤️
